Use Energy-Efficient Outdoor Lighting to Make the Summer Nights Brighter

Enjoy more warm summer nights outside by transforming your outdoor living space with the installation of exterior lighting. The correct lighting can create a distinctive, energy-efficient place to relax and enjoy the warm weather during the summer months. There are many options to illuminate your property in the evenings. Here are a few of our favorite energy-efficient options:

Solar Outdoor Lighting

Using solar lighting is a simple, environmentally friendly, and a cost-effective solution for areas where you wish to place outdoor lighting fixtures, as long as the lighting can receive adequate daylight. In addition to enhancing your home's security and safety by illuminating your driveway and walkways at night, outdoor lighting may also add visual appeal and dramatic effects to your landscape.

Installing solar lighting fixtures is much simpler than low-voltage lighting because there is no need for electrical wiring. You don't have to dig trenches for wires or figure out how to connect the lights to your home's electrical system because you can simply stake them into the ground. Additionally, because they are powered by the sun, solar outdoor lights will not contribute to your electricity cost.

In addition to the standard staked light, there are several other options for appearance and application. For example, you can find lights that hang on the wall or out over the walkway, lamppost, or even lighted bricks that work well around pools or other paved areas not conducive to staked lights. For functional rather than decorative lighting, you can install solar-powered floodlights with a motion detector to deter intruders.

LED Lighting

LED lighting is another environmentally friendly option for outdoor lighting. Even if they require hard wiring, LED bulbs are much more cost-effective than regular halogen or incandescent bulbs. Unlike halogen and incandescent bulbs that have a yellow cast, LED bulbs produce bright white light and can be left in place for many years. LED bulbs may cost more upfront, but they will last longer and use less energy than incandescent bulbs. Even solar-powered LED lights are available for outdoor use.

Motion Sensor Lights

When choosing energy-efficient lighting that will be installed over patios and walkways, always consider using motion sensor lights. Even if they're solar-powered, you can still use less of the energy stored in their solar reserves by having it turn on only when necessary.
