Summer Energy-Saving Tips for The Exterior

Summer time means delicious grilled food, beach days, and campfire stories. With the warm weather, now is the perfect time to make the exterior of your home energy-efficient and keep the cool airs indoors.

Here are 6 energy-saving tips for The Exterior:

  • Use windows to gain cool air. This is where window upgrades can save you money in the long run. On milder days and nights, opt to shut off your air conditioner and crack open the windows. You’ll also appreciate the breath of fresh air!

  • Make sure your cooling system is running efficiently. This means it is time for an AC tune-up, and to check the window seals on your pane-based air conditioner units.

  • New exterior doors often fit and insulate better than older types. If you have older doors in your home, replacing them might be a good investment, resulting in lower cooling costs.

  • Seal and insulate. You want to keep hot air out and cool air in, so take some time to inspect your home for air leaks and poor attic insulation.

  • If you have a pool, consider upgrading to a variable speed pool pump to save on energy costs. Also, be sure to keep the intake grates clear of debris.

  • The outdoor porch or post lamp is one of the highest used light fixtures in a home. Many compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) will fit easily into existing porch lights. Or install a new ENERGY STAR Certified outdoor fixture that saves energy through advanced CFL technology, a motion sensor and/or a photocell that turns the light on only when someone is present or on at night and off in the morning.

Summer time can cause people to use slightly more energy, especially when trying to cool the house.  Visit blog.xoomenergy.com for more tips to help make your home more energy-efficient and cost effective this summer!
