National Hanging Out Day: Air Drying Clothes and Saving Energy
On April 19th, we celebrate National Hanging Out Day! What exactly is National Hanging Out Day, and how do we celebrate it? National Hanging Out Day encourages everyone to use a drying rack or clothesline instead of an electric or gas dryer to help the environment and save energy. The day also strives to bring awareness to the benefits of air-drying clothes. Many celebrate this day by hanging out their washed clothes to dry outside.
History of National Hanging Out Day
Since 1995, Project Laundry List and several other organizations have sponsored National Hanging Out Day. Project Laundry List is a group encouraging outdoor drying of clothes, "making air-drying laundry and cold-water washing acceptable and desirable as simple and effective ways to save energy," according to their mission statement.
