Energy-Efficient Valentine’s Day at Home

Energy-Efficient Valentine’s Day at Home

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, most people make plans to express love to their significant other. If you’re opting for a quiet date night at home, remember you can still stay energy-efficient! Here are a few of our favorite tips for an Energy-Efficient Valentine’s Day at Home:

1. Choose an Energy-Efficient Dinner

If you plan to cook, remember our energy-saving cooking tips. When possible, use a slow cooker, which uses less energy than the stovetop. Also, be sure to cook with the right size pan for the food you’re cooking to avoid wasting energy.

When dinner wraps up, use a dishwasher instead of handwashing. The dishwasher uses less water than handwashing dishes. This gives you more time with your Valentine and less time for cleanup.

2. Snuggle Under a Blanket

Turn down the thermostat and stay warm by cuddling under a comfy blanket. Using a smart thermostat to lower the temperature can help reduce your energy usage and is easy to do right from your smartphone.

3. Dim the Lights

Set the mood for dinner with some candles or mood lighting (by way of a dimmer switch) and reduce your energy costs. If you want to maximize these savings, you could also get some energy-efficient light bulbs.

4. Turn Down the Heat, and Light Up the Fireplace

Don’t bother using the heater when a fireplace adds romance and warmth to your home! A warm fire also works well in building a romantic atmosphere. Consider turning the heater off entirely for a cozy Valentine’s celebration- and save energy.

5. Energy-Efficient Gift Ideas

Need some great gift ideas to warm your loved one heart AND help you become more energy efficient? Try a solar smartphone charger, a luxurious fleece blanket, matching cozy pajamas, or candles in a romantic scent for when you dim the lights.
