7 Reasons Why You Should Switch to LED Bulbs
In honor of National LED Light Day in October, we thought we'd discuss some of the benefits of the most energy-efficient lighting you can buy and some cost-effective lighting solutions for your home.
Provide Energy-Efficient Lighting
LEDs produce light approximately 90 percent more efficiently than other light bulbs. LEDs use at least 75 percent less energy and last 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs they replace. Good quality LED bulbs can have a useful life of 25,000 hours or more.
LED Bulbs Do Not Cause UV Emissions
Another great benefit of LED lighting is that it does not emit any ultraviolet (UV) light and very little infrared light. Therefore, you can use LEDs for items sensitive to heat or UV rays.
LED Lights Can Operate in Extreme Temperatures
A popular feature of LED light fixtures is their tolerance for cold weather. These fixtures can withstand frigid outdoor temperatures, making them a great choice if you want to put out holiday decorations in a cold climate.
Longer Lifespan Than Other Bulbs
The longer lifespan is another advantage of LED lights. Once you start using an incandescent bulb, it has approximately 2,000 hours of use before it burns out. A CFL bulb maxes out at about 20,000 hours of use. So an LED bulb can last approximately 50,000 hours or more before needing to be replaced.
LED Lights Work Well Outdoors
Look for LED products for pathway lights, step lights, and porch lights for outdoor use. You can also find solar-powered outdoor lighting as an environmentally friendly alternative.
LED Bulbs Can Be Safer for the Family
LEDs are also safer because they are much cooler than incandescent lights, reducing the risk of combustion and burnt fingers. They also do not contain mercury and have a smaller environmental impact than incandescent bulbs. These bulbs are also much sturdier and made with epoxy lenses, not glass, so they are much more resistant to breakage.
LED Bulbs are Recyclable
Unlike metal halide bulbs or CFL tubes, most parts of LED lighting fixtures are recyclable. In general, the casings of LED lighting fixtures feature plastic or tempered glass, which is recyclable. In addition, since LED lights have a greater lifespan than non-LEDs, their production does not take a heavy toll on the environment.
