Summer Energy Saving Tips for The Bathroom
For such a small room, the bathroom sees a lot of water and energy use throughout the day. Large amounts of heat, water and lighting are used daily in the bathroom by every member of the household. It doesn’t take much effort to turn your bathroom into an energy-efficient zone.
Here are 7 easy ways to save energy in the bathroom:
Take shorter showers and save on your hot water use.
Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (120°F). You'll not only save energy, you'll avoid scalding your hands.
Install low-flow faucets and showerheads. Low-flow fixtures cost about $10-$20 a piece and achieve water savings of 25-60 percent.
Unplug appliances. Electric toothbrushes and hair dryers can still use energy even if powered off.
Air-dry your hair. Instead of using a hair dryer and straightening iron every day, try going natural. Not only will it save energy, it will also save you time!
Turn of the exhaust fan. You should definitely turn on the fan after you shower to remove humidity, but don’t leave on for more than 20 minutes.
Use cold water. When brushing your teeth or washing your hands, only twist the right-hand faucet. Drawing hot water when you don’t need it wastes the energy used to heat that water.
