What is PetSmart Charities’ National Adoption Weekend?
Each National Adoption Weekend, PetSmart Charities invites thousands of local humane societies, SPCAs and pet rescue organizations to bring adoptable pets into PetSmart stores across the U.S. and Canada so that they have the best chance possible of finding a forever home.
You’ll find dogs, kittens, cats, rabbits,small pets and more up for adoption this weekend.
National Adoption Weekends happen four times each year, in February, May, September and November.

Adoption Ambassadors are PetSmart associates who receive specialized training to become experts on PetSmart Charities’ In-Store AdoptionProgram.
We can help explain the adoption application process, introduce adopters to a representative from one of the nearly 4,000 animalwelfare organizations bringing adoptable pets into PetSmart stores, and provide guidance on how to integrate a new pet into the family.
We’re also passionate about PetSmart Charities and can explain how PetSmart and its non-profit partner have worked together for 25years to find loving homes for over 8 million pets and counting.
What is the adoption goal for PetSmart Charities’National Adoption Weekend?
Across North America, it’s hoped that morethan 33,000 shelter pets will be adopted during February’s National Adoption Weekend event.
When is National Adoption Weekend?
National Adoption Weekend runs Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in almost every PetSmart store.
How much is it to adopt a pet?
PetSmart works with animal welfare organizations to facilitate adoptions, but it does not receive any payment or cash value for the adoption of a pet.
Adoption fees are set by and payable to the animal welfare organization.
They can vary depending upon the type of pet you’re looking to adopt, their age, and health history.
But regardless of the fee, it’s always a great value, because adoption fees most often include:
Your new pet being spayed or neutered
Vaccinated against illness
Veterinarian checked for good health
And micro-chipping in case you and your pet ever become separated
Best of all, those adoption fees go directly towards helping a local rescue save even more pets in need.
What types of pets are available for adoption?
There are a variety of pets available for adoption during National Adoption Weekends.
You’ll find cats, kittens, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and even the occasional turtle or bird!
The variety will vary depending on the store location and availability.
Pet parents can always visit our pet finder at petsmartcharities.org to see which pets in their area need forever homes or call your local store to see what kinds of adoptable pets may be onsite.
How can I adopt a pet?/ How does the adoption process work?
To adopt a petduring National Adoption Weekend, simply visit any PetSmart store from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, or from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
PetSmartAssociates, including an Adoption Ambassador in each store, and volunteers fromour animal welfare groups and adoption partner will be on hand to help walk youthrough the adoption process.
There islikely to be a paper application form to fill out, a brief interview with a volunteer,and possibly a home visit to make sure that you and your pet will be happytogether for a very long time.
